Sleep under the dazzling stars in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan

Jordan – Rum nights

Sleep under the dazzling stars in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan – sip strong Jordanian coffee, dine on hearty Bedouin cuisine and experience the traditional nomadic life.  This quiet getaway of stars, sand and sun boasts a dramatic lunar landscape with towering sandstone arches, narrow gorges, ancient petroglyphs, gargantuan rock formations and red sand dunes. It’s like stepping onto another planet – right here on Earth!

Dubai - Arabian Days & Nights

Dubai – Arabian Days & Nights

Dubai is the perfect destination for some well-deserved winter sun. A visit to the top of the Burj Khalifa for a bird’s eye view of the iconic skyline of this glittering city is high on the list, followed by a day (or two) at Expo 2020 to experience art, culture, cuisine and entertainment from all over the world. The evenings will be spent in the Al Fahidi neighbourhood – a heritage area of traditional wind towers, winding alleyways, cultural houses and traditional restaurants.

Cambodia - The Lost Temples

Cambodia – The Lost Temples

As Cambodia’s biggest tourist attraction, Angkor Wat rarely wants for visitors – except for now. As the country has only just reopened, plan to get there before the crowds return. The thought of roaming Angkor’s abandoned corridors, walking beneath the smiling faces of Bayon, and picking my way through crumbling ruins intertwined with tree trunks in Ta Prohm is just too hard to resist. Sunrise at Angkor Wat is also a must, to see the magnificent towers appear in the misty morning light.

Ancient Egypt! Cruise down Egypt’s Nile River on a luxurious five-star boat taking in the legendary landscapes and ancient sites between Aswan and Luxor. But the call of Cairo is also too good to resist so spend a few days in the exquisite Le Riad Hotel de Charme. Explore the historic 14th century Khan-el-Khalili bazaar. The stalls – many arranged around small courtyards – sell everything from incense and stained-glass lamps to handmade carpets and semi-precious stones.

Uzbekistan - Follow the Silk Road

Uzbekistan – Follow the Silk Road

The silk road cities of Uzbekistan have always been fascinating. Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are home to busy bazaars, mosaic-adorned madrassas and ornate mosques in hues of vibrant emerald, azure, blue and gold. See how Uzbek bread is made and feast on massive portions of the signature dish, plov – a rice dish made with onion and carrots, with either mutton, lamb or beef, cooked slowly in layers. All washed down with pots of Uzbek green tea.”

Thailand – Charismatic Cities & Coastlines. Despite many visits, we still can’t get enough of Thailand’s cities and beaches. From Bangkok’s high-rise bars, glitzy shopping malls, golden temples and steaming noodle stalls to the Southern islands’ laidback beach bars, seductive sands, seafood pavilions and wellness retreats, there is something for everyone in the Land of Smiles. And let’s not forget the rural heartland – a mix of rice paddies, tropical forests, ramshackle villages and sacred temples.

Bali, A Spiritual Retreat

Bali – A Spiritual Retreat

Bali is known for spiritual and physical rejuvenation. From the spectacular Viceroy Bali located in the heart of Ubud, set off on hikes through endless rice fields, meditate in elaborate temples, and try your hand at centuries-old crafts such as basket weaving, painting and silverware. To satisfy the sun-worshipper in you, relax at the beachfront Raffles Bali and revel in the refreshing sea breeze before feasting on fresh seafood from Jimabaran Bay.

Italy - Slow Life in Liguria. Set among some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Italy are the five medieval villages known as Cinque Terre. As cars are banned here, travel slow – by train and by foot. Idyllic days will be spent walking along breathtaking cliff paths and through terraced vineyards; pausing over gelato in cafés surrounded by candy-coloured houses; cooling off with a swim; capturing Instagram-worthy pictures of perfectly-preserved architecture; and just absorbing the old-world charm.

Vietnam - Where There Be Dragons

Vietnam – Where There Be Dragons

Be on the search for the dragons of Vietnam’s Halong Bay! The Vietnamese believe that the incredible landscape was formed by dragons – their tails gouged out valleys and crevasses and they spat out jewels that turned into islands. On a two-day cruise with Bhaya Cruises we’ll venture deep into Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay stopping at caves, grottoes and fishing villages; and at secluded bays for sunbathing and kayaking. No doubt that the ethereal beauty of the bay will make up for the lack of dragons!
