'Kumulani'
means heavenly foundation, a perfect name for this special place
that served the first plantation families of Maui and saw lovers
come together and families begin.
Whether you desire a small intimate ceremony, or a ceremony
amid friends & family, enjoy your day together. We'll take
care of all the details that will make your wedding special.
Tradewinds stir and bring sweet scents of exotic flowers. The
surf below sends its calm serenade. A tropic evening alone.
Tomorrow is yours.
Aloha is the spirit of love in the islands; and in this
spirit, we invite you to celebrate your special day in Kapalua,
Maui.
The Kumulani Chapel located on the grounds of The
Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua once served as a place of worship
for the surrounding plantation community. Today, it is a place
for brides and grooms to make or renew their vows.
The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua offers a range of new
wedding packages which include such amenities as an appointment
to arrange the marriage license; the services of the clergyman
and use of Kumulani Chapel for the ceremony; specialty leis for
the brides and grooms; limousine transfers to and from the hotel
and Chapel; a musician performing the traditional Hawaiian
wedding song; a bottle of Ritz-Carlton champagne with keepsake
toasting goblets; wedding cake; floral; decor; wedding
photographer; a custom-prepared three-course dinner served on
the couple's guest room lanai; three-night stay in deluxe
accommodations; breakfast for two each day, daily newspaper and
unlimited access to The Fitness Center.
Kumulani Chapel is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean; a
landscape of stately Cook Pines, rolling lawns and local,
colorful flora; a view of the Island of Moloka`i across the Maui
Channel and the West Maui mountain range in the distance.
The 60-seat, plantation church would look at home in New
England with its A-frame structure and small steeple. Its
simplicity amid the surrounding tropical beauty provides a
fitting site for uniting couples from around the world.
The renovation, which took place in March of 1994, included
painting the wooden building ivory (the Chapel had been
schoolhouse red for many years) installing a graceful,
cathedral-style natural wood ceiling; and replacing jalousie
windows with clear glass for a light, airy effect.
The three-month renovation also included painting the ceiling
above the altar. Maui artist Al Lagunero's interplay of light
and color creates an illusion of sun, clouds and sky, and
recently added stained glass windows of tropical flowers throw
prisms of light on the altar.
The Chapel's long struggle for life began in the late 1930s
when eight families who wanted to build a Sunday school for
their children laid the church's foundation. However, the
conflict in the Pacific during the '40s halted progress when
construction material was confiscated for the war effort.
Dedicated to the vision of their own place of worship, the
plantation workers spent their precious free time laboring to
complete the church. The first Methodist services were held in
the building in 1951.
Children in the area still come to the Chapel for Sunday
school. But now, couples from near and far are beginning new
lives together in this charming chapel that represents a piece
of Maui's history.
Other Ritz-Carlton wedding sites include The Gazebo, Fleming
Beach and The Beach House Lawn. Receptions can include an
intimate dinner for two or a gala in The Ballroom for 200 and
up.
