Peter Island Tour, Maps, &
Ferry System
|
| |
| Come and join us for a tour of Peter Island. You'll also find
details about arriving at the Beef Island Airport and reaching our tropical
island paradise.
Peter Island is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Drake's
Channel, 6 breathtaking bays, and 20 secluded coves. Located 4 miles
south of Tortola, it is the fifth largest of the loose array of 60 islands,
cays and exposed reefs that comprise the British Virgin Islands.
The main resort complex is situated on the north and east side of our
vast island which has 1,800 acres of lush mountainous terrain, miles of
hiking trails, and five gorgeous white sand beaches. |

| |
| Deadman's Bay holds our largest and most spectacular beach which has
towering coconut palms lining calm, protected waters for excellent windsurfing,
sailing, snorkeling, and other watersports. Tennis Courts, Solé
Spa, and the Fitness Center are nearby. Our Beach Bar &
Grill is located there, and our Beachfront Suites are nestled into colorful
gardens at the west end of the huge crescent shaped bay.
Little Deadman's Bay and Beach is an extension of its senior and a good
spot for snorkeling. This area draws yachts of every size and kind
which quietly anchor just offshore.
Honeymoon, the resort's most intimate beach near Cabey Point, offers
only two lounge chairs beneath a single thatched hut. Island tradition
dictates that lovers pay tribute to the beach at least once during their
stay -- one couple at a time, of course!
Big Reef Bay lies a short walk across the hillside from Deadman's Bay.
Stretching three-quarters of a mile, its brilliant wave-crashing shoreline
is idyllic for beach combing and romantic sunset walks. The resort's fitness
trail also winds along this palm-lined beach. Round trip distance
from our marina to Big Reef Bay is 1.4 miles.
White Bay's Beach is favored for its privacy and breathtaking views
of Norman and St. John Islands. Snorkeling on either side of the
bay, where fish literally eat out of extended hands, is the best on the
island. Its sparkling white sands is a perfect place to enjoy an
exquisite picnic lunch. A 3.4 mile round-trip walk or complementary
van ride from our marina and reception area provides outstanding vistas
along the way. |

| At the heart of the resort, massive palms usher guests from the
marina, past peaked roofs of guest room cottages and a stylish resort boutique,
into our open-sided lobby and reception area. This adjoins the Drake's
Channel Lounge and Tradewinds Restaurant which overlook our freshwater
pool, sea-side library, and Tortola in the distance.
A short walk over a hill leads past the dive shop to the Beachfront
Suites, Deadman's Bay Beach, and our casual Beach Bar & Grill. A spa
and full-service fitness center is further along the shoreline, as is a
full array of watersports equipment. You'll find our tennis courts
hidden in the low hills behind the beach restaurant. |

Peter Island Doesn't Have Everything
|
It doesn't have:
-
A single parking lot, private car or street.
-
A children's program to bring "cannonballs of fun" to quiet, poolside sun
worshipers.
-
Televisions to bring reality into rooms with a touch of the remote.
-
Any structures rising higher than the mast of a 40 foot yacht.
-
A maid who brings an unwanted wake up call to your door each morning.
-
More than one guest per 10 acres -- ever.
-
Jewelry making, rumba lessons, or beach Olympics.
-
Walls in its lobby, dining area, lounge or library.
-
A guest who ever wants to leave . . .

Arriving at Peter Island
|
| |
| The picturesque Sir Francis Drakes Channel crossing from the Beef Island
Airport and Tortola to Peter Island is truly a magnificent sight and not
to be forgotten, either by day when you can view all the surrounding islands,
or by night when the islands' lights twinkle in the distance. |
| |
|
| |
| We have several large motor yachts which serve to be our own private
"ferry" system for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests.
One yacht makes ten scheduled round trips a day (between the hours of
6:30 am to 11:30 pm) from our Peter Island dock to our private ferry dock
just east of Road Town, Tortola. Guests arriving at the airport after
6:00 pm will be transferred by van though the quaint seaside neighborhoods
of Tortola and take this ferry to the island -- the route is shown in red
above.
Another yacht makes several trips during the day directly to and from
the Beef Island Airport Dock as shown in blue above.
To arrange a carefree transfer from the airport to our island, it is
essential that you notify us in advance of your confirmed arrival and departure
times, since the airport boat runs on an "as need" basis. Upon arrival
at Beef Island Airport (EIS), you will be met by our Peter Island Concierge
who will arrange for your transfer to the island. Usually, you will step
onto the Peter Island dock about 1 hour after arrival at the airport.
Our private motor yachts also take guests on a Thursday day trip to
Virgin Gorda for exploring the island and snorkeling the famous "Baths",
and on Tuesdays to St. Thomas for shopping and golf.
We can also arrange private crewed sailing and boat charters to
surrounding islands, day and sunset sails on the 41 foot sailing yacht
Silmaril, deep sea fishing, scuba diving through the resort's own
dive center, or take you to one of our secluded coves for a romantic "castaway"
picnic.
We hope you enjoyed our "virtual" tour of Peter Island, the next best
thing to actually being there! |
